"The men in the study who spent six hours or more per day of their leisure time sitting had an overall death rate that was about 20 percent higher than the men who sat for three hours or less. The death rate for women who sat for more than six hours a day was about 40 percent higher."
Wow! That’s crazy. Being the worker bee that I am, I spend most of my days tucked behind my computer in my comfy chair. I know it’s not great for me, when I’m stressed or intently focused on something my posture is horrible.

Last week I started my very own stand-during the day challenge. My goal is to stand for 5 hours per day for the next month (I’m already in week 2). The first night when I went home my legs were shot. I felt like I had run 5 miles. Surprisingly I wasn’t sore the next day, so I stuck to it. Now in week 2 it seems like habit.
I have a desk that rises to a standing height so I stand from the minute I arrive in the morning until around lunch time. I do sit during meetings and when I’m eating lunch. My goal is still to make it 30 days, but I’m hoping it will continue long beyond that.
Have you seen this TED talk? It was my inspiration for a 30 day challenge!
